{"id":277,"date":"2009-11-16T20:18:23","date_gmt":"2009-11-17T02:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.myheroesathome.com\/blog\/?p=277"},"modified":"2009-11-16T20:19:59","modified_gmt":"2009-11-17T02:19:59","slug":"making-it-262-miles-alone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myheroesathome.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/making-it-262-miles-alone\/","title":{"rendered":"Making it 26.2 Miles Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It definitely helps me to have a hobby or interest (or two) that can keep me busy while my husband is gone.<span> <\/span>Running is something that really helps me get through the hard times.<span> <\/span>It has a spiritual aspect for me that I really cannot explain.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">This year I decided to run the Marine Corps Marathon and was hopeful that my husband was going to be here for it.<span> <\/span>When we found out that he wasn\u2019t, I was devastated.<span> <\/span>I told him I was more upset about him missing the marathon than missing Thanksgiving (which I realize was rather selfish of me).<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It is a good thing that I have great family and friends that agreed to come cheer me on, which I\u2019m sure my husband was grateful for too.<span> <\/span>I have to say that even though my husband wasn\u2019t there for it, it was a very powerful run.<span> <\/span>To see all the Marines (there must have been thousands of them) working the marathon, all the Veterans and supporters running it, I couldn\u2019t help but be proud of my husband for what he does and feel bad that I gave him somewhat of a guilt trip for missing it. <span> <\/span>I didn\u2019t really mean to do it, but sometimes I get so focused on how I\u2019m going to feel when he leaves that I don\u2019t take into account his feelings.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I guess you can chalk that up to a learning experience.<span> <\/span>Even after 4 deployments and currently going through our 5<sup>th<\/sup>, there are still things I can learn about myself and hopefully be more conscious of next time.<span> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It definitely helps me to have a hobby or interest (or two) that can keep me busy while my husband is gone.
